About the event

HAIR IS THE GARDEN WE WEAR™ returns for its Second Annual Fine Art Exhibition at EMB Contemporary Collective — a curatorial offering grounded in Black hair as archive, evidence, and inheritance. Presented in recognition of Black History Month and the Lunar Calendar New Year, this exhibition brings together a powerhouse lineup of artists whose practices span generations, geographies, and disciplines: Yvette Rock, Geoffrey “Geo” Edwards, Nia Crutcher, Lisa Anderson, Henton Stinson, and Tzu Poré.
The exhibition invites guests and collectors into a space where hair, land, ritual, and identity converge. Through painting, sculpture, photography, and mixed media, the artists explore the ways our bodies and environments hold memory — and how creativity becomes a form of cultural stewardship.
A portion of all opening‑night art sales is tax‑deductible, with proceeds supporting our beneficiary nonprofit, Just Because We Care – Detroit (JBWC), a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to community uplift and mutual aid.
